Patrick Bateman is a serial killer from the book American Psycho, written by Easton Ellis. Bateman kills for the adrenaline, as if it’s a high for him, because he’s very into drugs. Whenever he gets the opportunity, he kills and the individuals he chooses are the ones who he discriminates against. He never plans ahead of time because it doesn’t give him the same feeling. The city he lives in gives him a lot of opportunities to catch an individual that he doesn’t agree with their way of living. One thing to look at is why he kills dogs and their owners in this novel. Why is it that he kills the dogs too? There may be a couple reasons why. In one of his killings, the owner he killed was gay, and obviously bateman has some type of fear of homosexuals. The owner was hitting on him, so maybe he didn’t how to take it so he killed him.”Are you a model.”p.165. One common occurrence is homeless people. He enjoys killing the homeless for some type of reason. He talks about how their way of living disgusts him and he wants the streets to be clean of them. Bateman usually picked on them first, asked them why they couldn't get a job, then would take their lives for the fun of it. He would be irritated with their answers which would make him upset, so he acted out the way he did. Also he had some type of chinese he didn’t like. He murdered a Chinese delivery boy, but then he realized it was the wrong kind, said sorry, and out the food all over him. He also kills a lot of women. They’re usually lower society women like prostitutes. He killed his highschool sweetheart too. Most likely because he still had feelings for her, so he got to express them in the worst way
