Modern slavery, also known as contemporary slavery, is a term referring to the enslavement and exploitation of people living in the twenty-first century. Throughout history, there have been many occurrences of slavery globally where one or many have complete control over a person or peoples, in today's world there are many different forms of slavery to still exist, and one to manifest internationally is human trafficking. Human trafficking comes in many forms, like sex trafficking and even organ trafficking. People often become victims of human trafficking if they are desperate to escape poverty or their old life. Most victims, like women and children, have become victims of molestation, abuse, and torture with the cause being human trafficking. The World Atlas states in an article titled The Worst Countries For Human Trafficking, the areas with the most confirmed cases of human trafficking include Algeria, Syria, Thailand, and, Belarus, with all countries not having appropriate laws and regulations set in place to protect their citizens. Trafficking occurs because of an increase in unemployment, armed conflicts, socials discrimination, and political, which can all be seen in those nations. It is clear that the victims of human trafficking suffer greatly by the psychological manipulation at the hands of their oppressors and traffickers. The victims are tortured by the fears of being killed or arrested. To elaborate, most victims live in foreign nations so their traffickers hide their visas when they reach their destination. Furthermore, some do not have documents and are aware they are violating the rules of immigration if they are leaving their homeland to enter a country like America. Therefore, they often suffer from mental illness as they seek refuge and freedom from their oppressors. An article by The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement states that the reason a victim might avoid reaching out for help is the fear of being arrested or physically harmed. There should be safer and more widely accessible resources for those who are victims of human trafficking to reach out
