Leonardo Da Vinci was the first man to design the airplane, helicopter, and many other things that you may have thought to be invented later in history. One of his most interesting inventions is the Ornithopter which is the first design of the plane. There is also a lot more things that you might not know about leonardo Da Vinci and his wonderful invention that gave mankind the ability to fly.

Leonardo was known in many places, but he had lived in Milan and was born outside Vinci, which lies high up on Mount Albano, in the valley of the Arno River, near the city of Florence on April 15, 1452. Sadly, he had died on May 2, 1519 in Clos Lucé, France. Leonardo’s inventions and designs were left behind and all of his hard work was not wasted. Especially thinking of way to create a device to giving mankind the ability to fly. You may be wondering what the ornithopter does and what it looks like. Well, the ornithopter is a device that was designed to enabled people to fly. It was designed for the operator to manually steer with their arms and legs, but there was only one recorded flight test done with this invention recorded in his notes that he took while perfecting it. Even though Leonardo had tried so very hard, there wasn’t enough power to have it take off manually with only one operator. Also, the ornithopter was designed to look like a bat mostly. At the tips of the wings it was pointed, the wingspan was about 33 feet long and the frame was made of pine with raw silk to cover it that made it light and stable.
