There were many technological and literal advances made throughout the postwar to present era in Britain’s history, each pushing forward and making breakthroughs in their own aspect. Some aren't as noticed, as it's either something that's just commonly used now or it made a difference in ways people aren't fully aware, the integrated circuit or microchip has given us the ability to constantly make technology significantly smaller and still maintain their great power. The time period is quite broad but has …show more content…

Dalloway was a book written by Virginia Woolf during and based around the modernist time period, this book was a large leap for Woolf though as it was about how war endangered many soldiers mentally. The content of this book was a large step for Woolf as she hadn't written anything similar to this before, it shed some light on PTSD showing that it's a condition causing severe mental scarring to those affected by it. They allow technology to be heavily compact to process mass amounts of information of everything happening in the device, tracking and storing all inputs and outputs. Before the transistors used on integrated circuits there where vacuum tubes which were a highly inefficient method of transferring information and currents primarily because of their tendency to burn out just as light bulbs do. Though integrated circuits also had a bit of complications themselves, they had to all be manufactured by hand making it difficult to even build one entire computer because of their miniature scale. Though proving impossible to mass produce they were still a step in the right direction to create the microchips that are used today. - "Geoffry Dummer Biography". purbeckradar.org.uk.
