Black but Wise
As one of the most inspired and dedicated individuals in the history of the world, this man had sacrificed almost his entire life just to bring freedom and justice among his people. Rolihlahla Mandela was born into the Madiba clan in Mvezo, Transkei, on July 18, 1918. In his early age, Rolihlahla Mendela always heard the stories of his ancestors’ valor and hardships during the war of resistance against the white in South Africa and this encouraged him to make his own contribution to the struggle of his people. In order to make those dreams coming true, Mandela spent his time studying really hard, knowing that education was the only way to prepare him for a career in the civil service as a fighter against Apartheid. Mandela was the first in his family to attend school and his teacher told him that his first name is Nelson due to the bias of British educational system in South Africa so his new name is Nelson Mandela. He achieved academic success through “plain hard work” and I am truly inspired by his dedication toward his goal of changing his country's future. In his adulthood, Nelson Mandela thought that it was time for him to end the mistreatment and the discrimination that the white have toward the black. When he was enrolled at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg to study law, he became actively involved in the anti-apartheid movement. He joined African National Congress in 1942 that started off small but gradually more and more black Africans joined as they had no voice under the current regime. Under their racist controls, the blacks were banned from better neighborhoods, better jobs, better farmland, and better schools. For twenty years, Mandela directed nonviolent acts against the racist government and on 11 June 1964, Mandela and his seven other comrades were sentenced to life imprisonment.
