Theodore Roosevelt, our 26th president serving from 1901 to 1909, was no doubt one of our most polarizing presidents. Roosevelt is considered to be one of our best presidents, yet he seems to be one of the most flippant presidents we have ever had when it comes to certain policies. Roosevelt's early life and rise to presidency can be attributed partly to why he chose to do the things he did and why he seemed to never treat cases the same. In fact, nearing the end of his presidency, he made many mistakes that would lead to exposing how he was abusing his power to be president. In 1906, an incident happened in which he blamed African American soldiers and wouldn’t give them a trial to defend themselves. When a Senator spoke out about his abuse of power, he would go on to punish him for defending them (Gould 42). This is the final prime example of why many thought of him as a very flippant or polarizing President. Theodore Roosevelt no doubt got many things done during his time as president, whether it was liked or disliked by those he was leading. He had the same mindset that America had for each world war, which was he didn't want America to get involved with other countries' issues, though other countries saw him as the best person for mediating.
