Responsibility is the state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone. Each individual has responsibility for themselves, displayed by actions and their personal opinion; but sometimes an individual has to take responsibility for someone else, such as family and friends. In the short story, Saturday Climbing, the author William Dempsey Valgardson shares an important and visual message about the deceptive image, responsibility displays through father and daughter relationships. Barry the father shapes his identity throughout the entire short story, his generation and over protectiveness makes him preserve life in a different way. Due to the fact that he lost his wife at a young age and was left with a
