In W.W Jacob’s short story “The Monkey’s Paw,” there are many instances of foreshadowing in order to keep readers engaged and on the edge of their seats. In part one of “The Monkey’ Paw’” the White family is introduced to the monkey’s paw by, family, friend Sergeant Major Morris. Major Morris explains the dire outcome of using the paw. Mrs. White asks if anyone has used the paw before and Major Morris responds with “The first man used his wishes, yes,”...”I don 't know what his first two wishes were, but the third was for death.
In the Monkey’s Paw Mr. White is responsible for the misfortune because he is the one who made the wish. Mr White is to blame because he is the one to actually make the wish. In the text the Monkey’s

Foreshadowing can incorporate meaning, suspense, and tension throughout a novel, making the reader more intrigued and eager to know what will happen later on in the story. W.W. Jacobs creates suspense and tension throughout “The Monkey’s Paw” through the use of this writing technique to add to the reading experience. For instance, in paragraphs 18 and 19 from “The Monkey’s Paw” when the Sergeant-Major Morris is asked the question “What was that you started telling me the other day about a monkey’s paw or something, Morris?” by Mr. White, Morris hurriedly replied saying “Nothing’’.

In the story, “Monkey’s Paw”, W.W Jacobs creates mystery and tension by showing the power of the monkey paw. With the power of the monkey paw you could make any 3 wishes you would like and they would happen. But it was not guaranteed that what you wish for would be positive or negative, so that creates the mysterious tone. Also the wishes that were made in the book were kind of crazy, so that creates the tension. In the first part it says, “ I do not know what the first two were, but the third was for death.”

The elderly visitor, Sergeant-Major Morris, who brings the monkey's paw to the Whites' home, is an example of foreshadowing in the story. His vibe of the situation is as he tells the tale of the paw, and his own experiences with the wishes all hint at the soon to be downfall.

Jacobs, one simple talisman was given to a family, and it flipped their lives upside down. There are several examples that show Mr. White is the most responsible for Herbert’s death. Numerous warnings were given to Mr. White after he stopped the paw from being destroyed.
Another reason its her fault is because later in the story she comes up with the idea that the paw can bring her son, without thinking about the consequences of the previous wish and instead focuses on getting her son back. On page 8 she says ”we’ll have one more. Go down and get it quickly and wish our boy alive again.” Proving she is not thinking straight in this segment as she thinks of only he good outcome instead of the consequence that will come with it.
15) I believe that the White’s did not deserve what happened to them because they were wishing for something sensible. The unknowing White’s were just seeking for enough to pay off their debt, moreover their mortgage, not for something unreasonable. They were not foolishly wishing for something irresponsible or doltish to please their self-interest. Therefore, the White’s did not deserve what fell upon them. 11)
An American writer Allen Saunders once said that life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans. In William W Jacob’s short story, “The Monkey’s paw,” an old Fakir curses a monkey’s paw to show that it is “‘fate that rules [one’s] life’”(58 Jacobs). The Whites tries to interfere with this natural order, despite having been told the intentions of the Fakir, and is punished for it. It is much better to accept it and submit to the fact that the human will will never be able to overcome fate. Fate really does rule people’s lives, because anyone who try to tamper with it suffer the consequences, and it is predetermined and unescapable.
Unfortunately, in the story, “Monkey Paw,” the son Herbert dies, I believe Herbert is the blame. Herbert was the blame of death because he stated in the story “If the tale about the monkeys paw is not more truthful than those he has been telling us; we shan’t make much us of it”. He didn’t really think about what the paw was capable of. Also he said “we’ll just wish for 200lbs, then; that’ll just do it.”
“Well, don’t break into the money before I get back.” -Herbert. In this “Monkey’s Paw” Herbert says this sentence. He says this, because his parents got greedy and wished for money to pay for their house. Their son was then killed in a machinery accident, so they were given money for his death on that company’s property.
