Blame its not a great thing but it is powerful. And in the story, “The Monkey’s Paw”,blame runs rampant as to who is responsible for there misfortune and the death of Mr. White’s son, Herbert. There are many to blame for this question, but the answer has been found. Mrs. White although not the first person who comes to mind she is the one responsible for her manipulation and general curiosity and the downfall of the Whites.

In the beginning of the story we are introduced to Mr. White, Mrs. White, their son Herbert, and Sergeant-Major-Morris. Morris gives them the paw, and a warning, and then leaves. White’s fault, as he is the one who made the wish, but this is not true as he never really wanted anything and it was his family around him who told him to wish for them. On page four Mr. White says “I don’t know what to wish for, and that’s a fact.” this proves that Mr. white is not responsible for the misfortune as he is already happy with what he has.
No it is not Mr. White’s fault, but it is Mrs. White’s, In he beginning it was her curiosity that made Mr. White interested in the paw. She said on page 2 ”Monkey’s paw?” her curiosity sparked Mr white into wanting the paw. Had she not spoken it would be likely that Mr. white would have understood that bad things had happened with the paw and left it on the fire.
Another reason its her fault is because later in the story she comes up with the idea that the paw can bring her son, without thinking about the consequences of the previous wish and instead focuses on getting her son back. On page 8 she says ”we’ll have one more. Go down and get it quickly and wish our boy alive again.” Proving she is not thinking straight in this segment as she thinks of only he good outcome instead of the consequence that will come with it. And instead of reasoning she manipulates her husband into making the second wish. In the story on page 8 it says“get it quickly, and wish— Oh my boy, my boy” and while he does, he does it out of fear instead of it being because its his wife and he trusts
