I believe that all pieces show the theme, think about others rather than yourself, this relates to the stories “Red Bandana”, “Skin”, and finally “Sanctuary”. In the story “Sanctuary” Jim hammer was running because he shot at somebody and decides to hide at his best friend's house where he is questioned by Obadiah's mother who agrees to hide him. Later in the story you learn that Jim shot at somebody while stealing tires, turns out he shot and killed his best friend Obadiah. In this passage the sheriff is talking to Obadiah's mother about Jim while jim is in the other room hiding, “Bill Lowndes was saying ‘we been a-lookin’ for Jim out along the old road. Figured he’d make tracks for Shawboro. You ain’t noticed anybody pass this evenin’, Annie?’...’No, ah ain’t sees nobody …show more content…

This shows that Mis’ Poole I willing to forgive Jim because she knows that it was an accident and that at this time they would have killed Jim if they caught him. This is relevant to the theme because she was willing to let Jim live rather than get revenge or lash out her hate on him. In the song “Skin” by Rascal Flats a girl named Sarabeth is diagnosed with a disease, that I presume to be cancer, is treated with something that makes her lose her hair, Sarabeth is in highschool and she is about to go to prom. In the text the author notes “Its quarter to seven/ that boys at the door/ and her daddy ushers him in/ and when he takes off his cap/ they all start to cry/ cause this mornin where his hair had been/ softly she touches just skin” (Flats). In the section above the author celebrates the fact that the boy felt bad for the girl and wanted her to feel safe and worry less about what other people see. When the boy shaves his head he is showing the girl that it doesn't matter what other people say or think because itś the personality that
