Rhetorical Analysis “Down on the factory farm” The last thing that comes to our mind when we order a piece of steak at a restaurant is how that animal we are about to eat was being treated while they were alive. According to author Peter Singer’s article "Down on the factory farm” he questions what happened to your dinner when it was still an animal? He argues about the use and abuse of animals raised for our consumption. In Singer’s article he states personal facts and convincing statistics to raise a legitimate argument.
In April of 1861, the first month of the civil war, Alfred M. Green gave a speech to encourage his fellow African Americans to “prepare to enlist” and fight for the north. The north was fighting to preserve the Union and end slavery while the opposing side, the south, fought to defend slavery. Although they could not fight in the war, and did not want to, he felt that African Americans should “strive to be admitted to the ranks.” In his speech, Green uses many different methods to persuade them to join the Union forces.

Persuasion or manipulation, one lets you select the choice yourself and the other attempts to make the choice for you. Persuasion is the action of cause someone to do something through reasoning or argument. Henry’s Speech in the Virginia Convention and Franklin's The Speech in the Convention both are prime examples of persuasion. There are numerous ways to persuade someone, whether it’s antithesis, restatement, repetition, or rhetorical questions; These are examples of rhetorical devices are exceptional tools for persuading an audience. Franklin uses antithesis as well as logic to persuade his audience to unanimously pass the constitution, while Henry uses parallel rhetorical questions and appealed to the audience's sense of logos and ethos to persuade his audience that we must go to war with Britain.

There are many different ways and types of persuasion, authors also use them to write stories, and people use them in their everyday lives. There are pathos, logos, and ethos. Also repetition and alliteration could be used, and they are very effective when used in the right sense.
The True Nature of Mankind Of Mice and Men by American author, John Steinbeck, is the story of a special companionship between two men, George and Lennie. It begins when they escape a lynch mob in search for a new place to work so they are able to achieve their dream of buying a ranch. They do not want just any ranch; a ranch with rabbits for Lennie to tend to, a ranch for George to grow all the food that they could possibly need, and a ranch with a beautiful big house and stove. Throughout the novel, Steinbeck conveys the struggles of the trying times through George, Lennie, and their fellows using many different rhetorical devices to prove that the true nature of mankind has the inability to accept their actions right, wrong, or indifferent.
Persuasion has been used to not change the minds of people, but rather to make them . “Ethos, pathos, and logos are frequently used in the Declaration of Independence,” (Root). Historical figures have used the rhetorical technique of persuasion to change the path that history takes. In the 1770’s, the Declaration of Independence was signed to show that the America’s separated themselves from the Great Britains. “That they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the state of Great Britain is and ought to be totally Dissolved,” (pg 115 line 19).
In society, emotional connection with others is considered fundamental and beneficial, but living without social support can result in persistent stress and pessimism. The novella "Of Mice and Men" emphasises the significance of companionship in life and how it can make life feel meaningless without it. John Steinbeck stresses that having a strong bond with someone is essential for a fulfilling life and mental well-being. He discusses how without maintaining a close and meaningful connection with an individual can guide one to self-isolation and create social anxiety. In addition, the author illustrates the adverse effects of loneliness and isolation on a person's psyche and overall demeanour.
The primary audience in the speech is mainly for the gay community of the nation. Mr. Milk is able to connect with his audience because he too is gay. The primary audience in the letter are those who “criticize” Dr. King, and he confronts his audience as a African American who has been oppressed and will not tolerate it any longer. The main purpose of the speech is to “give hope” to the gay community, and Mr. Milk does this by explaining how the “right movement” is not really happening as so many think.
Indicating that youth are the sole opposition to animal testing and that they are somehow hypocritical for their criticism of animal testing wouldn’t fare well with a younger audience. Lastly, the final area that could use improvement is the overall structure of the speech. It was hard to follow, and if the speaker could make clear points it would improve the speech and make it easier to understand the overlying theme. To conclude, a persuasive speech can utilize many different concepts including persuasive concepts, verbal and nonverbal, as well as overall effectiveness.
To dream is to desire an achievement which seems unobtainable. Most everyone has trouble convincing themselves that their dreams are within reach. Jim Carrey once said, “So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality.” This is a result of allowing dreams to remain dreams and, instead, opting to take a more reliable path. In doing so, a sense of emptiness that never completely dies out is often developed.
Persuading by appealing to readers emotions. It depends on the language choice of affect to the audience's emotional response. Pathos can make the argument very strong. Many world class athletes have strength, focused on one goal and love is very common in sports today. Nike adds fuel to these emotions by adding ," just do it".
In Animal Farm, George Orwell warns how power will often lead to corruption. Napoleon was placed in a position of power after Major died, and he slowly starts to lavish in his power and become addicted to the lush life of a dictator. When Napoleon first becomes a leader, he expresses how everyone will work equally, but as his reign goes on, he shortens the work hours. At the very end of the novel, the observing animals even start to see that pig and man had become the same. The irony present in the above example, illuminates how regardless of how much a ruler promises to maintain equality and fairness, the position of power that they hold, will corrupt them.
