Cuban Missile Crisis Address to the Nation
On October 22, 1962, the United States would receive very bad news about a crisis in the making delivered by President John F. Kennedy. The address is stated to the American people, Cubans, and the soviets. There is trickery happening right under our noses, a secret that the soviets are building a nuclear launching missile base, albeit they reassure us that they have capabilities that warrants no need for this so-called missile base. Kennedy does not hesitate to implement his 7-step plan, he initiates it immediately. The soviets are playing with fire with this one by going to Americas backyard and setting up shop. Kennedys audience was everyone involved in the crisis from Cubans to foreign leaders. As the 35th President of the United States, he assures to America that this “constitutes an explicit threat to the peace and security of all the Americas”. The way john uses logos allows for calmness and secureness of his intended audience be it the Cuban and the Americans. Kennedy shows ethos with his leadership skills by telling the Cubans that they have a conspiring leader. He commented that “to the captive people of Cuba, to whom this speech is being directly carried by special radio facilities. These false statements helped the Soviets’ continuation of this devastating project. We can analyze that these false claims were meant to redirect attention off the soviets, so they could secretly continue building their base. J.F.K. gathered evidence to support his claims with backup to false claims and presenting it in a timely matter or Kairos to show the audience the seriousness of the situation.
“This nation is prepared to present its case against the Soviet” stated by J.F.K. War could have been the result if the Soviets did not comply. This was implied by President Kennedy. Kennedy calls chairman Khrushchev to halt his threat of world peace. J.F.K. appeared to come at President Khrushchev as his 7th step while using logic and reason showing excellent use of logos. JFK represents the united stated and puts Khrushchev responsible for the compromise of American safety. I have strong reason to believe that without Kennedy’s logos we could have been prisoners of the U.S.S.R. or not even exist
