The Taxation Debate
I. A. Taxation has always been a great debate between liberal and conservatives. Some say that the rich should pay more, and some say that the rich pay just enough. So which one is it? B. People often argue that the rich do not pay enough in taxes. They are called the rich for a reason, therefore it would make sense if they paid more in taxes than those of middle class. This is an ongoing argument between liberals and conservatives. Some may argue that the reason that they are rich is because they work hard, but what about those who work hard and are of low income? Not much has changed since tax income became a thing. The wealthy are still paying low taxes and making most of the income. 76% of capital gains are going to households that earn more than $1,000.000. 92.2% percent of those households are in the top 1 percent (5 Ott). Some states agree that the rich need to pay more in taxes. Seattle is one of the states which are taxing the rich more. The city of Seattle requires Americans who earn beyond $250,000 yearly to pay a 2.25% tax. The rich do not want to pay more just so other people can have tax cuts. People do not think the rich should pay more in taxes because it is not fair that they have to pay more than the bottom percent does (19 Ponnuru). 2. In fact, some argue that the bottom percent do not pay enough in taxes. The bottom 50% earns 11.3% of all income but pay 2.8% of taxes (20 “Don’t Believe”). They are saying that the ratio of how much they earn and how much they pay is not fair. The same is said for those who are wealthy. In fact, the tax code is the reason that white wealth is advancing (21 Ott). 3. Because of this reasoning, middle-income taxes could be expecting a tax raise. Those who are receiving an income of $54,700 to $93,200 will pay higher taxes in 2027. They will be paying 70% of taxes (22 Fredreka). Taxes will be increased for the middle-class Americans in 2027, they are paying a majority of
