The Cambodian Campaign was a series of military operations conducted in eastern Cambodia during 1970 by the United States and the Republic of Vietnam during the Vietnam War. These invasions were a result of the policy of President Richard Nixon. A total of 13 major operations were conducted by the Army of the Republic of Vietnam between April 29 and July 22 and by US forces between May 1 and June
Henry Kissinger, Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, along with President Nixon believed that it would be in the best interest of the United States to keep the Cambodian bombings a secret. Former President Lyndon B. Johnson had been public about his involvement in Vietnam, which did not completely bode well for him. Protests and riots errupte as a result of Johnson’s exposure of war efforts. For these reasons, Nixon decided to keep all his Cambodia plans within a small circle of his trusted advisors. Before 1863, Cambodia mainly served as a vassal territory for either the Thai or Vietnamese governments' to own.
Richard Nixon was the 37th president of the United States from 1969 until his resignation in 1974. During this time moral majority came into being. This was a political organization who later was no longer existent. During his presidency he provided the country wirth acts, policies and improve relation with foreign countries. However, he was also involved in the known, ‘Watergate Scandal’.
Robert McNamara hope to achieve containment of communism in North Vietnam and have a south Vietnam to be a capitalistic. He believes that the US should keep communism in North Vietnam and prevent communism to spread to North Vietnam neighboring countries. McNamara recommend the following actions he wanted to stabilize US forces in Vietnam which he viewed “…would put us in a position where negations would be more likely to be proactive…”. He also wanted to install a barrier which would run across sea, the neck of south Vietnam and some of the trails in Laos. Stabilize the Rolling Thunder program, Peruse a vigorous pacification program.
Richard Nixon once said, “If you want to play beautiful music, you must play the black and white notes together” (Brainyquote.com). Richard Nixon said this because he opposed racism. One example of this is when Nixon started a program called “New Federalism” that helped combine black and white students together in the same school. Nixon was Vice President for Dwight D. Eisenhower and later ran for president and became president in 1968. Nixon may be remembered for the Watergate scandal where he resigned instead of being impeached.
The Vietnam War has been a subject of much debate throughout the years, whether or not the United States should have gotten involved, and if the United States won the part of the war they were involved with. The Americans were involved in the Cold War, against the Communist regime. So, it was not a big surprise that the United States got involved in Vietnam, trying to stop North Communist Vietnam from overtaking by force South Vietnam. After the Vietnamese fired torpedoes at an American ship on August 2, 1964, in the Gulf of Tonkin, President Lyndon Johnson had Congress declare that the United States could use military force against Vietnam. However, Congress never officially declared war against Vietnam so the American presence was not sanctioned.
•Richard Nixon pronounce that the war was ending proved premature •But in April of 1970 he expanded the war by ordering the u.s and south vietnamese troops to attack communists in Cambodia. •Nixon did start decreasing the American troops strength in the Vietnam •But the war still continued •In 1972, the North launched a massive invasion on the South. •Then the South bombed the North in December of 1972 •Paris Peace Accord was signed January 1973 •U.s forces were withdrawn •But that didn 't end the war •The war end in April 1975
I will be writing about Richard Nixon was the 37th President of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974 when he became the only U.S. president to resign the office. I will be talking about his life before his presidency, during his presidency and life after his presidency. I will be talking about Nixon’s early political career as in life before he became the president. I will be talking about how Nixon was elected to be the U.S. Senate seat. Nixon was also chosen to be Vice President by Dwight Eisenhower.
This paper explores American involvement in the Vietnam War with the purpose of bringing light to the unjustness of American involvement in the war. Through comprehensive research and the use of various articles, this research paper asserts that the Vietnam War was a lie of American democracy and an excuse to spread anti-communist hate. This conclusion was achieved by investigating the various factors of American involvement throughout the Vietnam War. Under fears of expanding communist influence, the American Government used foreign policy to unjustifiably enter the war. Political theory was similarly used to justify entry into the Vietnam War.
Despite this huge military exertion, the United States neglected to accomplish its target of safeguarding an autonomous, noncommunist state in South Vietnam. This disappointment has prompted seeking inquiries regarding why and how the war was battled and whether a superior conciliatory and military result was feasible for the United States. Vietnam war peace transaction initiated in the mid 1970's between the two sides trying to end the contention and convey dependability to the area. In January 1973 suspension of military activity by US and coalition troops was requested by then US president Nixon. Right now, US, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korean troops started pulling back from the locale.
Other reasons why Americans were dissatisfied had to do with the draft, The Tet Offensive, Hamburger Hill, and My Lai The Tet Offensive occurred in 1968 which happened to be the worst year in the 60s. Tet was a Vietnamese holiday to celebrate the new year. It was suppose to be a seven day seize fire to purely celebrate. North Vietnam lead surprised attacks all across South Vietnam. Although we had beaten the Vietcong in the Tet offensive, it was not considered a success.
There was an air of tension between America and Russia after the World War II. The United States was not in favor of Communism, and they believed that Russia was trying to give worldwide domination to Communism. Americans realized that they should stand against their policy and this created the background of the Vietnam War. Vietnam was a French Colony Since 1883; Americans wanted Vietnam to be a part of French Empire rather than becoming a Communist.
I was a veteran in Vietnam War, and have been released from active duty. I opposed the Vietnam War and the U.S. involvement in it. I spent 2 years in Vietnam, and have been wounded many times, and have had saved my crew many times. I have received 3 purple hearts, a bronze star, and a silver star. Yet despite all of this, I realize that the United State’s involvement in Vietnam is not only not beneficial to the U.S. economy or U.S. troop morale, but just plain wrong.
1. The Watergate Scandal in 1972 revealed many ethical dilemmas in President Richard Nixon and his administration. President Nixon proves to be a teleological egoist as he determines what is right is what will benefit himself the most. Additionally, he has a subjective theory of the good because what is good is determined by how he feels about it. When deciding to break in to the Democratic National Headquarters, both Nixon and the five agents of the Committee to Reelect the President lacked prudence because they did not act wisely.
Richard Nixon believed so highly in this plan of vietnamization that he was willing to give up his presidency for it. Hopefully for Nixon, “An Loc was the first chance to test it in a major battle. To the surprise of both sides, Vietnamization worked” (Fleming 1). Everyone was surprised when the south vietnamese army started to fight back without the help of the United states. The republic of South Vietnamese began to fight the North and won without america’s help.
