On July 7th 2011 69 year old Richard Oland was discovered in his canterbury Street office by his personal assistant. He was severally beaten repeatedly by a blunt object. There were 45 wounds recieved by Richard Oland. Six of which were located on his hands as a failed attempt to protect himself from his attacker. over 30 hair and fibres were collected for forensics. This included three hairs found inside Oland's hand and tissues found under his fingernails. Not a single hair could be tested as all lacked the root and only Richards DNA was found under the nails. The attack left blood on every wall in the office, patter made contact with his desk, computer, chair, filing cabinets and an empty Pizza box in a nearby garbage can. It was stated that Richards wounds were created by both a sharp edged weapon, while others injuries caused by blunt force. Some speculations suggest a combat knife, a roofers hatchet or a drywall hammer. No weapon was ever recovered or entered as evidence. Once again Saint John Police contaminated the crime scene. They even tested a bag that Dennis had taken inside his fathers office on July 6th and came up with nothing. No blood was found on Dennis' Cell phone either. Dennis jacket was then inspected and 5 red spot had been identified. After testing these spots were confirmed to be blood that matched the DNA profile of Richard Oland. He was charged with the second degree murder of his father. Oland's trial was the longest in New Brunswick hitory and lasted 65 days. Dennis Oland was sentenced to life in prison, a chance of parole is possible in ten years time. However, Oland's lawyers immediately started proceedings of appeal. Requesting that the verdict be overturned, a new trail ordered or the possibilty of an aquittal in October
