The Night Stalker When most people think of criminals getting caught, I am positive they all think of them slipping up during a run in with the police, a witness seeing and identifying them, or them just finally being identified through DNA. But it is almost certain that nobody is going to list off their guess and it be how Richard Ramirez was eventually caught and arrested. Ramirez was a very cocky killer, he felt that because of his belief in Satan, he was untouchable, but that could not be further from the truth. The cockiness of Ramirez would eventually lead to his arrest. August 31st, 1985, Ramirez was seen driving a stolen car through the neighborhood of his latest victim. Usually, Ramirez would be unseen and slip away, but this night, he was seen by a 13-year-old James Romeo III, who would then describe the suspicious man to the …show more content…

When he reached the car, the small mob that had been chasing him with their fists and even some pipes ready to stop him, would circle around him. The fists started flying and connecting with Ramirez, the pipes were being swung and brought down onto him as well. The police were called, and by the time they had arrived the mob had nearly beat Ramirez into his grave, had the authorities shown up even two minutes later, there would have been no trial necessary to sentence Ramirez, as the crowd would’ve beat him to death. Instead upon arrival, the police found Ramirez a bloody and bruised mess on the ground. The crowd stopped the whaling of Ramirez so the police could haul him away, the only words Ramirez could say were “Thank God you came” (Estep). Ramirez would be taken into custody of the LAPD and would be placed in protective custody, with a handful of other safety measures put in place to ensure his survival and health to stand trial for his heinous
