Rikki-Tikki Tavi Culminating Writing Task The narrator ends the story, “Rikki Tikki Tavi” by stating that “Rikki had a right to be proud of himself, but he did not grow too proud”. I disagree with this statement because the story provides multiple examples of Rikkis’ conceited attitude and overblown image of himself.
The author wrote a chapter called Twisted Ropes and it really was about how his life was so twisted. It tells the story of a night he woke up tormenting his pregnant wife. The short story, “The Half-Skinned Steer” by E. Annie Proulx, is written in a very unique fashion. It begins with the story of Mero in old age returning to his family ranch, but sidetracks by telling the story of Mero’s youth, and of the old man’s girlfriend. While these stories may seem unnecessary, they are crucial in understanding the death of Mero, and the lessons behind his mistakes. The story of Tin Head closely mirrors that of Mero, because it shows the resemblance in their destiny. They deal with the situations very differently; although their troubles are similar, a seemingly supernatural power leads them both to their demise.

The novel All The Rage, by Courtney Summers,is a very difficult text to read and comprehend because of the awful act done to the main character, Romy Grey. As a result, no one wants to believe Romy due to her belonging to a unsuccessful family. Therefore, she does not count with the help of anyone but of her mother, stepfather and coworker/friend Leon. It is evident how Romy is ashame of being a victim of rape and wants to hide this experience, as well as her pain by applying red nail polish and red lipstick. In addition, she doesn’t want her friend Leon to know about her past experience because she feels ashamed about it, and also hopes that his sister Caro’s baby isn’t a girl.
Bird’s story deals with the main characters scared of a figurative creature. The Stick Indians are a creature in tales that were used to scare young kids in some Indian culture. Similar to how the Loch Ness monster is used Scottish folklore. The men in Bird’s story, upon hearing about the Stick Indians, became uneasy sitting out in the open on the ice. The main characters decided that they wanted to head back to shore, because it was “cold”.
