To begin with, theme is what the author is trying to convey in their writing. It is what they want you to take away from a story. In a way it is like a lesson that you are learning. In the story “Rikki- Tikki- Tavi”, there clearly is a theme. There seems to be some sort of question as to what the message of this story is. I can’t apprehend why there is a question. I mean how could I when Mr. Kipling states it so clearly? I am one hundred percent sure that the theme of this story is Good Triumphs over Evil. I know that this is the theme because it continuously gives examples of how good wins over evil. I can also see how some people may think that the theme of this story is Face your Fears. Rikki-Tikki, who is the protagonist, did a lot of good things in this story. For example, he put himself at risk of death to protect his family and the animals in the story and not only survived, but succeeded in protecting them. He didn’t only do it once, but he did it three times. I’ll prove it with text evidence too. In other words, he triumphed over evil. The mongoose isn’t the only good character in this story that triumphed though. For instance, take Darzee’s wife, she was brave enough to help Rikki out and now she has no threat to her babies. She triumphed over evil as well. Let’s say that you still don’t agree with me, that’s okay. I have another example. Chuchundra helped to warn about Nag, and now he has no more snakes to be afraid of.
