1) In the movie Inside Out, the main character Riley seems to be controlled by her emotions which are located at what is called the “control center” of her brain. This “control center” is the limbic system. The limbic system includes the amygdala, hippocampus, and thalamus. These brain parts control emotion and, or memory. The reason that Riley's “control center” represents the limbic system is because Riley's “control center” contains little emotion people that regulate her emotions and also depending on who is operating the emotion board memories are made corresponding to the emotion.

For example, when Riley is first given broccoli she looks perplexed and knows something is not right but then her reaction turns into disgust when the person in her brain labels broccoli as disgusting. This process of emotion would best fit the Schachter-Singer theory of emotion. This theory of emotion states that a person feels physiologically aroused then cognitively labels that arousal based on outside stimuli. The people in Riley's head are perfect examples of how the Schachter-Singer theory works. When something happens to Riley and is aroused in some way, based on what is happening one of the emotions takes to the controls and designates a certain response to the stimulus. Also another tell tale sign that the Schachter-Singer theory applies to Riley is that the stimulus and the response don't happen simultaneously. The stimulus happens then a bit later an emotion kicks in. Also the psychodynamic approach wouldn't be as accurate as the trait theory. The psychodynamic approach focuses more on unconscious desires and drives which is not what is causing Riley to get her islands.
