Every year millions of Muslims from all different countries make their way to Mecca for Hajj. Islam is a very diverse religion with worshipers from every continent of the world and has many different branches to the religion itself. One of the major traditions that every Muslim follows is the pilgrimage to Mecca, called Hajj. With many different steps and objects included in Hajj it is a very complex ordeal. Try to put more stuff here... Having over one billion followers, Islam is the second largest religion in the world. It is a monotheistic religion that has ties to both Christianity and Judaism. Islam originated in the seventh century, about 610 A.D, in Mecca, which is now day Saudi Arabia. After Muhammad had died the messages from Allah to Muhammad were later made into the holy scripture of Islam, called the Quran. Out of the many different branches the two main groups in Islam are the Sunni and the Shi’a Muslims which claim different roles of authority after the death of Muhammad. The Sunni Muslims make up about ninety percent of the Islamic population, while Shi’a Muslims make up about ten percent of the Islamic population. The Shi’a Muslims believe that the real successor after Muhammad was Ali and his son’s after him, but they were killed by the ruling caliph put into power by the Sunni Muslims.
