The rise of nurses during the progressive era was in response to the overpopulated, and unsanitary conditions of the cities.
The job of a nurse was to stop the spread of diseases in the community.
Lillian Wald coined the term “public health nurse”.
Passionate about helping others, she taught nursing classes to immigrants and lower income families.
