I went to go see Mary Poppins at the Riverton High School. It’s based off of the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney film. The play that Riverton High preformed was directed by Clin Eaton. I saw the play on November 21st 2015. The main characters were Michael and Jane who were looking for someone who would be a nanny for them. They had previously scared away all the nannies that had come. The father, George Banks, was a banker… I know, pretty ironic right? Mary Poppins decided to show up and take care of the kids, she trains them to be polite. The mother, Winifred Banks, was a very worried mother. The parent’s don’t understand why. The dad then decides to hire the nanny who trained him, Mrs. Andrews. (And made him a very boring person, but he forgot how much he hated her.) The lady that comes in, is extremely rude and puts everything, as she would say it, “in order”. Even the dad’s afraid of her. He soon realises that he can’t get rid of here because he’s too scared of her. The kids decide really quickly that they are willing to change. Mary Poppins comes back and, I know this will sound weird, puts Mrs. Andrews in a giant birdcage, because Mrs, Andrews kept this little canary in a cage, and never let it out. After putting her in the birdcage, they go offstage and then you don’t know what happens. The kids change and they live happily ever after. My favorite part of the play is where Mary Poppins flies away. They had a pulley system hooked to her, and she flew off the ground and flew away with her umbrella. The set really set the mood of the play. When we were with the lighting technician, he talked about how the lighting will set the mood. That was definitely true with this play. Same with the
