Have you ever had a snake in your bed? Most people have not, but that would be terrifying. "Poison" written by Roald Dahl in 1947 is about a man named Harry Pope who had a deadly encounter with a krait. The story takes place in India during the British colonies. Harry was living in a time where the British and the Indians did not get along. The story contains some breath taking actions, spine chilling scenes, and a little ambiguity. Harry Pope was at his house, in his bed when he feels a krait slither onto his stomach. Harry had to lay in his bed until his friend timber arrived at Harry's bungalow. So, we Timber arrived he started to help Harry, and Harry told him to just call doctor Ganderbai. Harry asked Timber to take off his shoes so he would not awaken the krait. Timber took his shoes off “to humor him” (338). He came closer to the bed to see why Harry was so frightened. “A krait,” he said. “A krait, Oh my God! Where did it bite you? How long ago?” “Shut up,” he whispered (338). Timber started to panic, asking Harry when and where. Although, what Timber did not know at the time was that Harry had not been bitten yet. So Harry tried to tell Timber that he has not been bitten, and Timber started to believe him. Timber stated that there was not much doubt about the truth of Harry’s story. In addition to that, it was not a surprising thing for a krait to do. They hang around people’s houses and are drawn to warm places. The krait was just looking for a warm place to hang out.
