The book Schooled is written by Gordon Korman. The main character is capricorn Anderson. It takes place at a school by the name of Claverage school (Or as they call it C-Average). It also takes place at Garland Farms Commune where Cap lives. Caps grandma Rain gets hurt and Cap has to go to school.
After reading the novel Twisted, written by Laurie Halse Anderson, I have become more aware of how different emotions and attitudes that people have can positively or negatively affect how they’re viewed by society. Furthermore, an individual’s attitudes and actions can also change their perspective of the world and the quality of their life. Early on in the book, we are introduced to the main character Tyler, who is an emotional, unpopular, and insecure seventeen year old senior who is hoping for things to change. Throughout the story, we follow his emotional rollercoaster filled with his thrilling highs and devastating lows. After researching astrology signs and their true meanings about specific traits, I have decided that Tyler fits within the Cancer symbol.
In Cold Blood features the true story and details of the bloody murders of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas. “Images in the film Brooks has made from Capote’s celebrated reporting of a Kansas murder case, In Cold Blood” (Crowther). One early morning in Holcomb Kansas, the Clutter family is awaken from their sleep and brutally murdered. The killers are two ex-convicts Dick Hickock and Perry Smith who planned to rob Herbert Clutter of $10,000 that was contained in a safe at his home. However, Dick and Perry find no safe, or $10,000, they end up leaving the scene of the crime with only $43.
In the excerpt “Under the Eye of the Clock” by Christopher Nolan, talks about the paralyzed boy joseph who is overwhelming with muscle pains. The excerpt develops an idea that tell us that no matter what the situation is, there is always hope. According to text, “Typing festered hope” (line 20). The author of the excerpt, means to tell us that you should never think that, you will not able to do anything, since you are paralyzed; there is always hope and you should wait for right time to come. In addition to that, author also says “great spasms gripped him rigid and sent his simple nod into a farcical effort which ran to each and every one of his limbs” (line 24 and 25).
Hundreds of thousands of dollars go into representing the value of a human life. The government continuously hands money to civilians who lost a loved one and struggle to maintain a lifestyle. Putting a dollar value on human life is without a doubt inhumane, but valuing life as much as possible is the most important aspect to discovering human value. Reading an interview titled, “Roger Ebert: The Essential Man [Excerpts]” by Chris Jones, I came to an appalling but realistic conclusion that sickness changes the way a person values life. Ebert, in the interview states, “I didn’t always know this, and am happy I lived long enough to find out.”
The passage Ruby Bridges: Girl of Courage is extremely interesting and shows how she fought for her rights without stopping. To begin with, Ruby Bridges was the first black student to go to a desegregated school. The six year old girl had to be accompanied by U.S. Marshals because the parents of the children that attended the school were furious. The young girl was very brave to do such a thing. One of the Marshals named Charles Burks said that she never cried, whimpered, but was brave and walked just like a solider.
The Revenant is a story based on the historical life of Hugh Glass, his journey of survival and revenge. Set in the 1820s, Hugh Glass a fur trapper on the Missouri river is attacked by a gruesome bear, suffering many injuries appearing to be life ending. With his throat slashed, scalp torn, and, arms and legs mangled, Glass suffered on the brink of death. Abandoned, left for dead, and stolen from by his companions Glass is forced to rely on himself in order to survive.
Freak the Mighty was written by Rodman Philbrick. It is about two opposite teenaged boys who become the greatest friends. The first one is the fast-growing giant, Max. Max thinks he doesn’t have a brain but that all changes when he meets Freak. Freak, also known as Kevin, is a boy as smart as Einstein himself.
Citizen Kane by Orson Welles is a cinematic classic, released in 1941. Citizen Kane challenged traditional narrative and technical elements of classic Hollywood cinema. Kane was narrated by several people that include their take on Kane’s life. The story unfolds by many flashbacks and is told by different perspectives over the years through different narrations. Charles Foster Kane was a millionaire, head of newspapers and died saying “rosebud”.
Due to the occupation that Mr. Hanks holds, there is often a perceived disconnect between the average person and himself, which can then make delivering an important message all the more difficult as there is no emotional connection between him and the audience. Tom overcomes this hurdle with the aforementioned use of the universal feeling of love, which all can relate to. Anne Bradstreet’s poem “To My Dear and Loving Husband” was written between the years of 1641 and 1643. “Not until the year 1678, six years after Bradstreet’s death, the poem was published” (Ruby 228). A poet with Puritan beliefs, this poem uses the religious language, hyperbolic metaphors, paradox, and antiquated diction and style in order to explain the devotion and love for her husband as she struggles with the Puritan way of life along with the uncertainty of her reassurance of love. Reading this poem over and over for countless hours I came to the conclusion that there are two messages that Bradstreet was trying to project in this poem, the Literal way and the sarcastic way. The Literal way clearly shows the readers the love of a wife for her husband.

Keeping It Simple You would be hard pressed to find anyone who does not live under a rock that has not at least heard of Harry Potter, if not read a book or seen a movie. The series has become a cultural phenomenon that has people of all ages as loyal fans worldwide. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was the first book in the series by J. K. Rowling that had to have some qualities to capture audiences. Sure, it is a book about magic and adventures, but there are plenty of books about magic in the fantasy genre that never will have the following that Harry Potter does, so what did Rowling do to make this a meaningful story?
