In the 1800’s an almost pure capitalist country was being controlled, bribed, and powered by Robber Barons which employed most of their population in an unmonitored economy. During the late 19th century these Robber Barons were in control of most citizen’s salary. In order to increase profits many factories paid their workers a decent wage so their employees could afford their products. That was the United States. Again a similar problem is arising.
John D. Rockefeller was an American businessman and philanthropist. He was born on a farm in New York-but moved to Cleveland, Ohio during the late 1850s where he became a successful businessman. As the years went by” he began to notice the oil industry” and he became interested. He lived in Cleveland which became a regional hub
When Cornelius Vanderbilt died he left his $100 million fortune to his son William Vanderbilt and they both had the same attitude. During the Gilded Age these big business and their owners were thought of as being Robber Barons or Captains of Industry. The poor working conditions that were provided, the corruption they led in government, and their use of child labor shows that they were Robber Barons. Children were used in labor to work a lot and most days of the week. Kids as young as 5 often worked as much as 12 to 14 hours a day for barely any pay.

Rockefeller had an admiration for his integrity as a businessman and had a strong calling to his faith. His mother was a key role in his growth in faith and his father had taught him the importance of saving money. His values had always been grounded in tending to those who are less fortunate and quickly gain his respects to the business of producing oil. He had always had a fascination with oil and one of the members of his church, Samuel Andrews, who was an investor in oil. Both Andrews and Rockefeller joined together to make the business which would be called the Standard Oil Company.
During the 1860’s to the 1900’s big innovations where discovered. This period of time increased America’s economy and made life easier. Mr. John D. Rockefeller was one of the many men who contributed to this incredible change. This man’s vision and ambition toward success/greatness “revolutionized the petroleum industry and provided a model for other consumer-goods industries” (pg 388). Other men followed his steps and made big businesses just like Rockefeller’s.
John D. Rockefeller in my opinion is a robber baron; The term robber baron was used in the 19th century to describe a group of industrialist who were creating enormous personal fortunes. Many people believed he used unethical business practices to amass his extraordinary wealth. John had a drive to become one one of the richest people in America. During Rockefeller's time the average person was making around 8 to 10 dollars per week, but Rockefeller was worth millions. Rockefeller did use some tactics that were questionable.
He gained control to 90% of the oil in America and dominated the economy. While some disagreed with his ways, others were able to see his achievements with respect and admiration. Through his life, Rockefeller was able to set the stage and be an example to those to come through his accomplishments, aggression, and

Rockefeller is considered a legend due to the fact that he is the founder, along with his brother, William and others, of the Standard Oil Company and ran the business until his own retirement. He was considered the world’s first billionaire in the world and gave half of his money towards various, good causes. Rockefeller was the businessman of his time; his business career started when he was only 16, when he was buying and selling goods. But Rockefeller’s business career rose when he created the Standard Oil Company, which he is most known for.
Rockefeller affected the United States in ways a man could not possibly dream of. However, he was a ruthless businessman and treated his employees with no respect. Ultimately, Rockefeller was a villain to people in his time period, but a hero to America in the long run. On July 8 of 1839, John Davison Rockefeller was born.
He was a normal man just like every one of us, whose ideas sparked innovation in the world today. Growing up, Mr. Rockefeller came from humble beginnings. He worked by starting and taking over different small businesses as a young teenager. John D. Rockefeller established a commission business dealing in hay, grain, meats, as well as some other goods together with a friend. He would tend to be very careful and tedious with his ventures.

Although Rockefeller did make a name for himself in the oil industry,supplying the U.S with oil, and creating the Standard Oil Company;his road to power was paved with the pain and suffering of others due to his malicious behavior. He should be remembered as a Robber Baron because of his attempts at monopoly, malicious behavior to those who stood in his way, and especially the treatment of his workers in order to get the wealth he desired. J.D. Rockefeller used tactics such as vertical integration, using rebates to transport his oil for cheaper prices, and using ruthless methods to eliminate the competition. Rockefellers ruthlessness lead him to be very successful up until his fatal encountered with Ida Tarbell.
John D. Rockefeller was a very important man who helped build our country. He contributed to making the world as it is today. John D. Rockefeller was a very determined businessman, who got what he wanted most of the time. Even if he was harsh, he transformed the world into a better place, with lots more of technology. From all this hard work, he was among the richest men to ever live.
He was also the first person to create a monopoly which he succeeded in since he controlled 90% of the refineries and pipelines in the United States. John D. Rockefeller was very influential to history. His company was one of the major reasons why the U.S. government established more anti-trust
