Imagine if someone saw their house burn down with his family in it while looking out the window at school. That exact same event happened to a boy named Robert Cormier. He had a very rough life and this is one of the many examples of that. He eventually beat his challenges and he had a very successful writing career.
On January 19, 1925, in Leominster, Massachusetts, Robert Cormier was born. His dad, Lucien Joseph Cormier, who was a factory worker and was married to Irma Margaret Cormier. One of his challenges was that his family didn’t have a lot of money since they had to raise eight children, including Robert. Also, he lived during the Depression, which was a bad time for America. To start it off, he wrote commercials for a local radio station. That was Robert’s his first job (“Robert Cormier”). His first poems that were published in a newspaper called the Leominster Daily Enterprise, he also earned money for each poem he wrote that was published (“Robert Cormier”). He wasn’t just an author, he was a journalist for 30 years. He wrote for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette and the Fitchburg Sentinel (“Robert Cormier Biography The Famous”). During his writing career he wrote nineteen stories, his stories were mainly for young and regular adults (“Robert Cormier Biography The Famous”). He had two books he was known for, The Chocolate War and I am The Cheese (“Robert Cormier Biography IMDb”).
