Robert Dietz was a scientist who was known for his contributions to the geology of the seafloor and to geological aspects of the theory of plate tectonics. Dietz intended to major in geology but Dietz pursued his interests in astronomy in Illinois. Even though the astronomy department was weak at the time, he took the two available astronomy classes. Dietz evan studied every lunar photograph he could obtain. He was also one of the first professional marine geologists. Dietz made major contributions in three general areas of Earth and planetary sciences: marine geology and geomorphology; continental drift and plate tectonics; and planetary geology. Dietz was born in Westfield, NJ on September 14, 1941. Dietz was the second youngest of seven children. Dietz die in Arizona on May 19, 1995. He published several influential and widely cited papers on geological aspects of plate tectonics. Dietz is most famous for the geological reconstruction of the ancient supercontinent of Pangea. …show more content…
Dietz manly went off to the North Pacific and the Arctic basins, as well as the Hawaiian swell. He recognized the importance of diving technology. Also with workmates at Scripps and NEL, they help Dietz map submarine fans .Dietz also went to a beautiful place in Trieste, Italy for ultra-deep-sea diving. Robert Dietz was an American Geologist who was known for substantial contributions and for the promotion of Theory of Plate Tectonics. Dietz was born in Westfield, NJ on September 14, 1941 and died in Tempe, Arizona in 1995. Dietz was educated at the University of Illinois where he received his BS., MS. and Ph.D. in Geology. Originally, Dietz wanted to study the surface of the moon, but was told that there was no way to confirm his findings. Instead he completed his work at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography in San Diego where he mapped the seafloor canyons off the coast of
