Robert E. Lee, a great officer for the United States Army. He served throughout the Mexican-American War, and the Civil War. Lee was a famous Confederate general during the civil war. He is one of the most prominent historical figures for the south. Lee chose to fight for the south, simply because his love, and loyalty toward his native state Virginia. According to the research, Robert E. Lee stood 179 centimeters tall and weighed about 77 Kilograms. He was never known to smoke or drink alcoholic beverages. He strongly opposed those who wished to abolish slavery. Before the Civil War Broke out, Lee was secretly seeking a peaceful way to resolve the conflicts and differences the North and the South. Lee admired one of the founding father, George Washington. He hated the division of the country. When the war between the south and the north seems inevitable. Lee had to make his choice, whether he will fight for the south of the north. He could fight against his state Virginia nor the side of the abolitionists. During the war, Lincoln offered Lee a position of the Union army in Virginia, instead of accepting the order, he resigned from the United States Army. He joined the troops of the Confederacy. Lee’s first job was to organize the Confederacy forces in Virginia. Lee's first battle was on September 12, 1861, he and his army suffered defeat at the Battle of Cheat Mountain, by the Union forces commander Major Gen. George B. McClellan. After the defeat, Lee quickly regains his strength. He then regrouped and fought a series of battles some of the famous battles like the Seven Days Battles, the Second Battle of Bull Run (Second Manassas), Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Chancellorsville, Battle of Gettysburg, and the Appomattox Campaign, which was the place where Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant. Among those battles both the Confederate army and the Union were both impressed by the brilliant, and unique way of thinking and military strategy by Lee. According to the research of those battles, Lee, and his army were mostly outnumbered. Lee also suffered financial supports from any foreign countries, because the Confederate States Army did not get recognize by any of the European Nation. After the Battle of Gettysburg, where Lee’s forces suffered an enormous amount of casualties. That battle turned the war around for the Union and ended Lee’s invasion of the North.
