Robert was greatly influenced by the brilliant and highly regarded Harvard experimental physicist Professor Percy W. Bridgman. He loved to learn and was very private elsewhere. He studied Latin and Greek, physics, and chemistry in addition to taking three years instead of the typical four to graduate in 1925. Even more amazingly, he completed his doctoral studies in two years instead of the four to five years that are currently standard in the United States.
