The Scottish and talented author/novelist Robert Louis Stevenson, well known from the 19th century, born in Edinburgh, Scotland on November 13, 1850, wrote many astonishing and profound novels and stories, among them, Treasure Island, which is believed to be his most popular. Fortunately, he was born into a wealthy family, and, as a child, was taken care of and was looked after by his nanny, who is believed that her name was Alison Cunningham. At the age of twelve, Robert went a holiday that lasted five months with his parents and nanny. During those days, he had visited France, Belgium, Germany, and Italy. Sadly, even as a child, Robert had many health issues, and got sick very easily, which made him out to be a very fragile person. He got accepted into the Edinburgh University where he started off by studying engineering, his family business, however that didn’t last long as he changed to studying law. He went all the way and by good fortune, passed his final law exams and tests. However, he never enjoyed anything as much as he enjoyed writing. Fast-forwarding to 1876, after going canoeing, with the company of a friend, in Belgium and France, he took note of all his adventure and kept a journal, which he later used in order to write his first official book, An Island Voyage. Three years later, he went back to France, in 1879, when he fell deeply in love with the American Fanny Osborne he met in France, and decided to marry a year after, in 1880. They moved to Britain, where Robert lived with his twelve year old stepson, Lloyd and his wife. Going back to Scotland for vacation in 1881, Lloyd drew an imaginary map to supposedly a hidden treasure to pass time since it was raining the whole time. Seeing the map, Robert remembered pirates and treasures, which was his inspiration to write the famous Treasure
