Robinson’s Community Outreach Center is a family ran Nonprofit Organization that will be established in South Phoenix. This organization will maintain a 501 (C) 3 status and will offer impactful services to the community. Our mission is to elevate the community one household at a time, by providing them with necessities and resources that would defeat the economic deficiency in Phoenix, Arizona. When Robinson’s Community Outreach Center mission is met our agency envisions communities throughout Phoenix reaching their full potential as a result of cultivating stronger bonds, improving hunger and poverty statistics, and sustaining a safe haven for children. We discovered that, The Phoenix metro area has the third-highest percentage of people living in poverty among the 25 largest metropolitan areas in the country. Nearly 1 in 3 children go hungry and 1 in 5 residents live in poverty. In 2014 data was provided by Ktar news which collected poverty rates from the population in Phoenix and as a result the case found that out of 4.3 million residents 145,537 live in high poverty. In fact, 2 million Arizonans are considered working poor, living at or below the Federal Poverty Guideline. More than 40% of the households receiving emergency food assistance have at least one person who is working (St. Mary's Food Bank). Child poverty in the phoenix metro area is at 24.7 percent compared to the national child poverty rate of 21.7 percent. Furthermore, according to the Arizona community action association, the basic demographic groups in poverty are White 18 percent, Black 28.3 percent, American Indian 25.8 percent, Asian 13.2%, and Hispanic 29.6 percent. We have joined ventures with St. Mary’s Food Bank to develop our food distribution service which are called Family Care Packages. St. Mary’s Food Bank donates food towards The Family Care Package service, but takes place at our South Phoenix location. Every Monday between 8:00am-12:00pm our pantry is open to the public and we have 10-15 volunteers assembling and presenting food boxes (Family Care Packages) to needy and deserving families. Each care package contains a dozen of eggs, two loafs of bread, a bag of potatoes, canned milk, fruit, fresh produce, a box of rice, a bag of beans, canned goods, and three gallons of water. We also have linked up with Roosevelt School District to expand a summer meal program for Elementary school age kids throughout summer vacation. The after school tutoring program is connected with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix- MLB All Star D-Backs Branch and will be held at their facility due to size. The hours of operation for this program will be from 3:00pm-6:00pm. During this time, 5 volunteer tutors on the behalf of RCOC will attend. All of the volunteer tutors have to be at least 16 years of age as well as must have experience assisting children ranging from First to Fifth graders, just to make sure the outcome is beneficial as possible.
