We’ve been waiting for this for a whole year. It’s that moment when you’re surrounded by thousands of strangers yet you feel like one big family coming together for this one moment. Rock Fest is a place only some people have heard of, but for me it’s a second home and I’ve never been more excited. It’s almost time now, almost time for the first show to start. I exchange a look with my two friends that have been coming with me for years as the roar of the crowd continues to get louder, and then, the lights go dark.
* * * July is my favorite time of the year because I get to go to Rock Fest. Those that have been there know that, “once you go to Rock Fest, you never go back.” Not only is it a place to see all of your favorite music, but it’s a place for friendships. Usually the friendships you make there stick, and these people you meet become your family. Every year we go, we meet new people and we always meet up with each other sometime during the festival and reconnect. That’s what I can’t wait for.

It’s when you’re standing there in a big crowd of strangers that are all there for the same reason; the music. You all know the words and all share the same love for the music and the people that made it. Since that day, my experience has never been the same there. You have your people you initially go there with, you have your close friends that you meet in the campground, and you have the people down at the concerts with you. They might be your neighbors this year, ex neighbors from previous years, or people you meet in passing. They could be people you’ve known for years, people you just met, or complete strangers. It doesn’t really matter who they are or what kind of impact they have on your life. You’re all there for that one moment when the lights go out and the music
