In the 1930s South, social injustice was through racism toward black people. Mildred D. Taylor wrote a book on how black people had to live with racism. Schooling, Strawberry, Mississippi, and the Wallaces are examples of social injustice that Mildred D. Taylor uses. School is one of the first examples seen in Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. In 1930, African Americans and whites had to go to separate schools in the Strawberry, Mississippi area; black kids went to Great Faith Elementary and Secondary School, and white kids went to Jefferson Davis County. 97. Mr. Berry and one other man had looked like this while the other man had died. Mama had to explain to the kids that the Wallaces were the ones who had done this to them. Papa took Stacey and Mr. Morrison to Vicksburg on Wednesday and plans on returning on Thursday. On Thursday, a storm began, and the men still weren’t home, and mama became worried about why they weren’t home yet. When they arrive home, Mr. Morrison is packing Papa into the house and sends Stacey inside to get out of his wet, muddy clothes. Somebody had sabotaged their wagon, and the wheels fell off, they were fixing the wagon when a truck pulled up, but they didn't hear it. Then a gunshot went off and grazed Papa’s head. The horse got startled by the shot and moved the wagon. The wagon ran over Papa’s leg and injured him badly. The Wallaces did this because the Logan’s started a boycott to stop shopping at the Wallace store and start going to a store in Vicksburg. In conclusion, social injustice in the 1930’s was whites giving unequal treatment to blacks. Mildred D. Taylor wrote a book, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, on how blacks dealt with racism.
