Unit Author: Hunter Kelly & Jennifer Ta Title: Roller Coaster Mania Unit Summary: In this unit, students will be taking on the role of Junior Architect at Canada’s Wonderland. The Junior Architect is tasked with creating the new main attraction for the park. His or her goal is to impress the Rides Manager enough with their roller coaster model for it to be the main attraction at the parks Season Opener this spring. Students will be responsible for integrating all their mathematics and science knowledge to design a functional and aesthetically pleasing model to pitch to the Rides Manager. Along with the model, students must generate a written brochure that explains all the design features and their reasoning for choosing them. The main focus for this unit is to provide students with the opportunity to enhance their critical thinking skills about geometry and spacial senses, while integrating pulleys and gears from the science curriculum.
