Members of the Senate, people of Rome, today I have gathered you here so we can share in what is my victory, and soon to be yours. I have recently been named dictator of Rome, an honor which is beyond me, and quite possibly the greatest honor anyone has ever been given. I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has lead up to this wondrous day, as I prepare to cradle Roman society in my very arms. I could not have ascended to this power by myself, no. I believe that I was brought into this world with the light of gods beaming down upon me, and the blood of gods coursing through my veins. Later that year, I travelled to Spain to pay my final respects to my Aaunt Julia and to console my family, deep in mourning. After my return I sat comfortably as quaestor, before winning the election for the post of Pontifex Maximus, a position of religious prestige which held a lifetime of honor inwithin itself. At about that time I found myself in a fair amount of political debt to Crassus and Pompey, other dominant leaders of the time. I reconciled my debt and brought the three of us us three together in one of the most significant moments in the history of Rome: the monumentally by formationforming formation of the First Triumvirate, a rule of three men whose minds were set on shaping a better Rome together. That Alliance was instrumental in reforming Rome, but was abruptly ended with Crassus’s death during a battle in Syria. This caused Pompey to turn against me, and eventually lead us into yet another civil war. In what proved to be a decisive an extensive victory, I lead my troops across the river Rubicon, and pursued Pompey and his army out of Rome to Egypt, where we crushed them underfoot and struck down Pompey with a blow heard for miles. My return consisted of the final days that have lead up to this moment. WithUpon my feet being back on Roman soil, I was named Ddictator of this great city
