In the Prologue of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the speaker, Shakespeare himself gives us an introduction to the story in the very unique form of a sonnet with the addition of many metaphors as well. The prologue itself is one of the more important speeches in the play because it gives us a general feel for the main characters, families and setting that are involved within most of the entirety of the story. There is also a certain rhythm to the reading that you can pick up on when you read it fluently to the end. The sonnet, divided into different sections and each section itself of either four lines or two, brings a different idea to the table as well as a different topic of the general story.
During the first section in the Prologue of the speech, the speaker, Shakespeare shares with the listeners how the whole story takes place in Verona, Italy, as he says it is where “where we lay our scene”(Prologue line 2). This is the first section of the sonnet and here he describes that there are two families in the city of Verona and that they have been feuding for quite some time now and also that they have had some quite ugly times and fights due to the disagreements that they must have previously had due to the tension between them. “From ancient grudge to new mutiny”(Prologue line 3). Surprisingly to me and the rest of the audience, their love for their children was still not enough for the two families to put their differences behind them and accept eachothers love for one another, yet they separated tem and did not let them love each other and it ended with them being together the only way they were able
