Romeo and Juliet is a classic tragedy by William Shakespeare in 1597. It was based on a story from Ancient Greece by an author named Ovid, called Pyramus and Thisbe. Since one is based on the other, they have many similarities. However, William Shakespeare took his own liberties in refining the story. Both writings follow the story of two lovers who come from opposing families. Their families forbid them from seeing each other, but their love persists. They meet secretly, and they plan to get married and run away from their families. Regardless of any of the differences between the two stories, the ending stays true throughout both. Both pairs of lovers plan to get married and run away, but Romeo and Juliet are able to secretly get married before they run away. Juliet was supposed to go through an arranged marriage with Paris, an older and wealthy man who would increase her social status. Juliet purposefully fakes her own death to escape from her family and her arranged marriage. Her plan was for her family to see her death and move on from her, but Romeo saw her and believed that she was truly dead. He committed suicide due to his immense grief. When Juliet awakes from her slumber, she sees that Romeo is dead, and she commits suicide to join him. While both Pyramus and Thisbe die by suicide, the events that precede them are different. After talking for a long time through the crack of the wall, they decided they must meet outside. They decided to meet one night at a popular place in town.
