The film, Romeo+Juliet (1996), captivates some of the Main Ideas in the Book Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare: love, betrayal, and hope. Shakespeare’s themes and ideas are still used in today’s society to give us more of an understanding of what Shakespeare was trying to show, just like in the film Romeo+Juliet and the book shows those points. Hope is really shown in the film and book by Juliet having so much hope in Friar Lawrence that the poison will work and that she can see Romeo again. Love is obviously shown in the film and the book, just by the amount of love that Romeo and Juliet both have for each other and the other characters have for Romeo and Juliet. When Love was mentioned in the film and book of Romeo and Juliet, it has a similar style of how love is showcased whenever that would be of the similar language that is shown or of how the characters acted out of love. In the film Juliet is running out of time on how to get with Romeo so she seeks help by going to Friar Lawrence trying to figure things out with the Paris and Romeo situation, In the film she arrives to church and threatens Friar Lawrence that she would kill herself with a gun if Friar didn’t help Juliet out with the situation, As in the book as well but instead of a gun it’s a knife that Juliet will kill herself with, so she says “And with this knife, I’ll help it presently. God joined my heart and Romeo’s, thou our hands: and ere this hand by thee to Romeo’s sealed”(Shakespeare,4.1 55-58).
