Romeo and Juliet by Zeffereli is said to be similar to The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon, although Natasha and Daniel have some similarities to Romeo and Juliet, their relationship is very different than theirs. In Romeo and Juliet, they are both meant to love each other by fate, similar to what happens in The Sun Is Also A Star with Natasha and Daniel. In both, they are not allowed to be with each other because of their families. A big difference between The Sun Is Also A Star and Romeo and Juliet, is that Natasha and Daniel have a deeper and more genuine love for each other compared to Romeo and Juliet. In The Sun Is Also A Star, Daniel and Natasha don’t say they love each other until after they get to truly know each other. They get to know each other by asking questions and being with each other. “The questions fall into three categories, each more personal than the previous” (Yoon 85). They learned about what they both want to be when they are older, “Well what do you want to be when you grow up? A data scientist, she says” (Yoon 38). During the day they were getting to know each other more which strengthened their relationship unlike what happens in Romeo and Juliet when they just talk to compliment each other’s looks. Natasha and Daniel talk with each other and in the beginning she says “Because I am not going to fall in love with you, I don’t believe in love” (Yoon 76). By the end, when Daniel wins her over, she asks, “Do you think we would have worked out in the end? Yes” (Yoon 329). Natasha also says “I love you Daniel” (Yoon 332). If their relationship was similar to Romeo and Juliet’s, they would be in love with each other in the very beginning, however they take time before they genuinely love each
