In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare the author presents information to the reader through the balcony scene in a way that allows the reader to better understand the characters within the play. Many things are revealed in this one famous scene. Such as the personalities and the differences between Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare wanted the readers to see how Romeo was more of a confident individual when it came to love, but it made him a bit of a fool; on the contrary Juliet was less confident in love and more shy, however she was far more logical in the idea of already being in love, and how it was too soon; these traits show the differences between the characters while also allowing the readers to see the best and worst within Romeo and …show more content…

Romeo is in love with Juliet and wants her to feel the same, he’s willing to “love and I’ll be new baptized” so they can be together. It just goes to show how Romeo is already very confident in his love and ready to sacrifice, and do anything just to be with Juliet. Though clearly shows the audience that Romeo is a strong lover and it’s one of his greatest personality traits. It can also be his downfall as he falls in love too quickly and doesn’t really think about it. Making life threatening sacrifices for someone who he doesn’t know, and she doesn’t know him. Even sneaking into her estate, against a rival family that would, with no hesitancy, kill him on the spot. Though Juliet also does feel strongly for Romeo, she thinks far more logically. Knowing about how their families hate one another and would never approve such a relationship, and definitely not a marriage. Juliet understands that even though they both love each other already that “thy name is my enemy”. While that isn’t the best trait for a relationship it can also be good as it allows her to think logically before she thinks with her heart. Not only is Juliet more logical but she is also more realistic with the expectations of her family and Romeo’s family. Knowing that all of this is “too rash, too unadvised, too sudden” to simply get married off of one kiss. This shows how Romeo is fast and rash, while also being pretty unrealistic to already want to get married. While Juliet is more logical. Because she is thinking about what her family will think of it and what Romeo’s family will also think of it. She knows that they won’t think anything good about it. She knows this because of the fact that they hate each other. While it too shows how Romeo is more hopeful than Juliet and Juliet is very shy of the fact of getting married, much less to someone she met a day ago. While the audience does not yet know why Juliet is shy, the readers do know that she has low expectations and better control of her emotions as she has “no joy of this contract tonight”. Not a literal contract, but the bonding of marriage. This represents the low expectations she has in her family to approve such a thing. While also allowing her to stay logical and to not rush into anything that is so sudden and as she often puts it, is too rash. For only Romeo would want to get married so quickly, and that's what makes
