Tanner Reyenga Mr. Schach Honors Freshmen English 17 May 2024 True Love There was never a love greater than that of Juliet and Romeo. Almost every person has experienced love at some point in life. Love is a universal feeling and choice that is extremely powerful. The story of Romeo and Juliet is a romantic play written by William Shakespeare. In the play, Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight and swiftly marry each other. Unfortunately, their bountiful love ends in tragedy with their deaths due to the hatred between their two families. Romeo and Juliet’s love is true love because of their willingness to sacrifice everything for one another, their forgiveness for each other, and their unwillingness to live without each other. She then adds “And Tybalt's dead, that would have slain my husband. All this is comfort” (III.ii.107-108). Despite Romeo's horrible wrongdoings against her own family, she still shows love and forgiveness to her dear husband. She continues to stand with him, while no one else will. Romeo also shows forgiveness towards Tybalt. When Tybalt demands that Romeo duel him, Romeo tells him, “Tybalt, the reason that I have to love thee / Doth much excuse the appertaining rage / To such a greeting” (III.i.58-60). Although Romeo does not forgive Juliet directly, he is still showing forgiveness because of his love for her. Despite their feud and rivalry, Romeo forgives Tybalt and decides to love for the sake of Juliet. Romeo and Juliet’s forgiveness is remarkable, but their reluctance to live in the absence of the other also shows immense love. Romeo and Juliet's unwillingness to continue living without the other is one of the greatest ways they show their true love.
