Romeo and Juliet’s tragedies and the outcome Playwright, William Shakespeare, in his narrative play, Romeo and Juliet, recalls a young, forbidden, love, that is shortly ended due to a continuant feud between two rival families; similarly both belonging to the opposite sides of the two families. This creates a barrier and conflict between the romantic love that is forced apart since they are meant to be rivals. These events would later cause the lovers to go into extreme depths like killing themselves. in order to remain together. They did this in order to remain together for eternity due to the fact that they did not want to live without one another. Preceding this event, the couple had encountered many conflicts that kept them apart. Romeo had been banished from Verona as punishment for killing Tybalt, sending him outside of Verona, and Juliet’s parents were forcing her to marry Count Paris. Because of this, it resulted in Juliet developing a plan of faking her death so that both could run away from their families and be together. In spite of the fact that Romeo never received any information on what she was planning which caused him to believe her false death. He would later purchase a poison in order to join her, saying at her side “For fear of that I still will stay with thee. And never from this palace of dim night. Depart again. Here, here will I remain…Here's to my love![Drinks.] O true apothecary! Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.” (Shakespeare 72-73). As Romeo died, Juliet awakened and encountered Romeo laying next to her, dead. She says “...churl! drunk all, and left no friendly drop To help me after? I will kiss thy lips. Haply some poison yet doth hang on them To make me die with a restorative” (Shakespeare 74). Reporter, Maia Szalavitz, in her article, “Why the Teen Brain Is Drawn to Risk”, explains why adolescents have a higher crave to risk taking. She explains that teens, when taking risks, tend to overestimate the outcome. In other words, focusing on the positive side, looking at what good they will gain from the risk. She states “They may get lost in the details about specific risks and overly focused on possible rewards, while ignoring the overall ‘gist’... the ultimate consequences” Szalavitz 2).Furthermore, she explains that it is completely normal seeing this in teens, “We come into the world with limited knowledge about what kind of consequences we will experience after making decision and also about how likely these different outcomes are… we want to learn… unknown risks might stem from an underlying biological feature that makes learning about the unknown less unpleasant for adolescents than it is for adults”(Szalavitz 3). Szalavitz’s article makes a huge connection to Romeo and Juliet because it relates to the risks that Romeo and Juliet commit throughout the story like getting married and consummating after they just met each other.
