Strong parent figures and surrogate child relationships are hard to form and maintain. This makes having one challenging and difficult if handled the wrong way or without enough care. Then the key to keeping a parent figure and surrogate child relationship strong would be having the support each other. The relationship between Juliet and the Nurse is that of a strong parent figure and surrogate child due to the Nurses support for Juliet and her decisions. The way a strong parently figure and surrogate child relationship is portrayed by the Thunderhead and Greyson. “He knew what was expected of him. The thunderhead could not break the law. But he could. Of course, as Agent Traxler had pointed out, there would be severe consequences he did” (Shusterman 74). Greyson has been give an indirect assignment by the Thunderhead that could cost him everything. He had to make the decision on whether he would do it or not. He had to put his full support in the Thunderhead’s plan to save both the scythes. Making the decision to help the Thunderhead and support it one-hundred percent makes their relationship stronger in the end. This same relationship and support presents itself in Scythe Curie and Scythe Anastasia. “Luck is for losers. You have history on your side. You have gravity. You have authority. You are the Grand Dame of Death” (350). Scythe Curie has to go up against Scythe Goddard for the position of High Blade. Although she doesn't want to she know she must to make sure Scythe Goddard can’t. She has many worries before the debate and needs support from someone she loves. Scythe Anastasia does just that for her supporting her through her worries. She makes sure to let Scythe Curie know that she has the capability to win this for them.
