I have chosen one of the key people in this book that led to the deaths of Romeo and Juliette is Friar Laurence. I am choosing to punish the Friar because in act 2 Romeo went to his church and told him they would like to get married. Even after the Friar said that this was not true love, the only reason was that she was a pretty girl and that “man's heart lives in man's eye.” He still agreed to marry them. This shows that he didn’t care if they loved each other and was more concerned about the ongoing fight between the families. This was his thought process because he said this when Romeo came to his church. “For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households to pure love” act 2. I know this because of how hard he tried to stop this feud. I know that he tried stopping this because, in the scene where the families were fighting at the beginning of the book, he said that if there were any more fights they would have to pay with their lives. I see this as a way the prince tried to stop them from fighting with each other. A quote that I have shown how there are severe punishments if you fight. This is a quote showing how when Tibalt killed Marcusio then Romeo killed Tybalt and how severe of a punishment it is. “When he’s found, that hour will be his last.” This is the prince saying that if Romeo is seen in Verona he will be killed on the spot. I think that if they had listened to him and that if Tybalt wasn’t dead and Romeo was still allowed in Verona I think that there would have been a chance at them making things work out but once they broke the laws almost nothing could have helped them to fix this dilemma. Romeo couldn’t be in Verona and he killed Juliette's cousin. This shows why the prince meant all good in his actions and actually helped to try and bring them together by bringing the houses
