Romeo and Juliet Final Essay Martin Luther King Jr. once said “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.” This statement is proven by Romeo and Juliet. The story of Romeo and Juliet is so tragic that you have to wonder who is responsible for everything. The evidence from the book of the feud, not making Romeo leave, and the forced marriage all point to Capulet being responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Capulet, Juliet’s father, is very caught up in the feud between his family and the Montagues that he would do anything to defeat them. Lord Capulet said “What’s that noise? Give me my longsword! Come on!” (1,1,70) This quote shows how Capulet is ready to fight anyone. This is the reason Juliet keeps her …show more content…
A little later in the scene Capulet says “ I want my sword old Montague is here, and he’s waving his sword around just to make me mad” (1,1,72) This line shows how he is especially ready to fight any Montague. Juliet is probably scared of her dad and knows she has to keep her marriage a secret.Paris says to Capulet, “ You both have honorable reputations and it’s too bad enemies for so long” (1,2,5) First of all this shows how many people know about the feud and how long it’s been going on. This also shows that even though Capulet knows he could work well with Montague, the feud is too Important. This is just one of the many things that points to Capulet, another is how he trusted Romeo. At the Capulet feast, Lord Capulet did not force Romeo to leave even though he was a Montague. Tybalt, talking to his uncle, says “ Uncle, this man is a Montague our enemy, …show more content…
Capulet also tell Tybalt “ You will have to tolerate him. What, little man? I say you will.” (1,5,75) This shows how Capulet is the one to blame because he is telling everyone to leave Romeo which is the reason Juliet meets Romeo. This is another reason why Capulet is guilty, but there is still one more reason. The final reason to blame Capulet is because he is forcing Juliet to marry Paris. Discussing with Paris, Capulet says “ Sir Paris I’ll make a desperate argument for my childs love. I think she’ll do whatever I say.” (3,4,12-13) This line shows that Capulet knows he has power and is going to force Juliet to marry Paris. Later Capulet talking to Juliet says, “ Well, if you won’t get married I’ll excuse you. Eat wherever you want, but you can no longer live under my roof.” (3,5,189) This shows that Capulet was to disown Juliet and she knew she had to do something to get out of it. This is why she had to even go to Friar Lawrence. While Juliet is with Friar Lawrence she says, “I want to die if what you say isn’t another solution” (4,1,68) This is showing that Juliet is going to kill herself if she is forced to marry Paris.
