YOUNG LOVE IN ROMEO AND JULIET In the drama Romeo and Juliet, two lovestruck kids, Romeo and Juliet, fall madly in love with each other and get married in less than 12 hours. The two teenagers get caught in an immense feud when they realize their families are in a battle, against each other. Romeo and Juliet are so in love they deceive their families, get kicked out of their house, break rules, and even die for eachother. Although some may argue that the two are infatuated and are incapable of love because they are so young, the two kids show that they have a loving relationship in the final scene when they both take their lives to be with each other. 114-116 This passage shows that Juliet is very mature and determined to a long-lasting, and loving relationship with Romeo. Juliet shows maturity when she states to Romeo that the moon is too inconsistent to swear by. She realizes that the moon changes every night and she doesn’t want Romeo’s love for her to change constantly. Though their love is young, Juliet hopes that their relationship will always be constant and eternal. Before Juliet met Romeo, she was faithful to her family, and was satisfied with her family setting her up to marry a stranger, Paris. Now that she met Romeo, she risks her family, friends, and her life because their bond is so unbreakable. Juliet is fearful that a guard might find him and severely hurt him but Romeo replies with, “With love's light wings did I o'erperch these walls, For stony limits cannot hold love out, And what love can do that dares love attempt. Therefore thy kinsmen are no let to me.” (II.ii.71-74) In this passage, Romeo is using a metaphor comparing love to wings. A person, such as Romeo or Juliet, uses wings to overcome any difficulty that may get in the way of pure love. Through this metaphor, Romeo shows Juliet that nothing could ever stop a person who is madly in love whether it is a brick wall, or lifetime enemies. Though Romeo and Juliet’s relatives are enemies, it makes their story even more compelling, and proves they have a strong and everlasting love. When Romeo was with Juliet on her balcony, he referred to himself as being at “home”. This shows that Romeo and Juliet’s love is pure and natural because when Romeo is with her, he feels safe, even in very dangerous situations.
