Shoud Romeo and Juliet Be taught in Schools Romeo and Juliet is a love story written by William Shakespeare in the years 1591-1595. The story is a tragedy about two young, star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Romeo, a Montague and Juliet, a Capulet, their family’s feud prevented their love. Friar Lawrence marries them in secret without the consent of their parents. The same day as their marriage Romeo’s best friend, Mercutio quarrels with Juliet’s cousin Tybalt, Tybalt then kills Mercutio and in anger and with lust for revenge, Romeo kills Mercutio. For enacting this crime, Romeo is banished. In light of hearing about Romeo’s death, Juliet becomes depressed. Thinking it’s because of Tybalt’s death, Juliet’s parents try to marry Juliet
