The tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, takes place in Verona, Italy and is centered around the lovers Romeo and Juliet, who are from the feuding families of the Montagues and Capulets. They quickly fall in love one night at a party hosted by Capulet and decide to get married afterwards. Friar Lawrence, a religious teacher and priest in Verona, decides to wed these two individuals in the hopes of bringing peace between these two powerful families, which leads to the mess Romeo and Juliet get into. To begin, towards the end of Act 2, Romeo and Juliet secretly get married. Afterwards, Capulet tells her daughter, Juliet, that she will be married to Paris in a few days and Juliet tells her father she cannot. Her father insults her, by calling her a “disobedient wretch” and says he will disown her if she does not marry Paris through the statement, “Graze where you will, you shall not house with me.” At this point, Juliet gets into trouble with her Father because she does not want to marry Paris. …show more content…

If Friar Lawrence had not married them, Juliet could have married Paris and not have worry about being disowned and eternally damned and could have completely avoided this terrible position. Later in the story, Juliet cries to Friar Lawrence saying she does not want to marry Paris. In response, he gives Juliet a sleeping potion to drink before their wedding day that will put her in a deathlike sleep for 42 hours. As a result, her parents will believe she is dead and she will be put into a tomb and wake up there. According to the Friar’s plan, Romeo would know of the plan and come to the tomb and later leave with Juliet to Mantua. Unfortunately, Romeo does not get the message in time and goes to the tomb to mourn over Juliet and later dies by drinking the poison he bought from an
