Ronald Reagan would be regarded as a sort of revolutionary in American leadership and politics. As the fortieth president, Reagan would begin to make dramatic changes in American ideals. He was dubbed the nickname “Dutch” by his father, saying that he resembled a “fat little Dutchman.” Reagan moved from town to town during the earliest years of his childhood. His family finally settled down in Dixon, Illinois and opened a shoe store. It was through his father’s small business that he was humbled and shown the importance of hard work and self reliance. Throughout his school career Reagan was extremely involved with almost every aspect of school life. He was student body president for the duration of his high school career. He was also an actor in his school’s drama program and remained an avid athlete (American Idol). Upon graduation, Reagan enrolled to Eureka college, a liberal arts college located in Eureka, Illinois. Reagan majored in sociology and economics. Here he would continue being a part of school life. He participated in many sports and captained the swim team. He acted in school plays and served as student council president. In his later years, Reagan would come to be one of the most popular actors of his time, starring in numerous films. Reagan’s most famous film, Knute Rockne, All American, a biopic about George Gipp, would lead the way to make Reagan a cultural phenomenon (Biography.com Editors).
