Discrimination is treating someone unfairly based on their race, gender, or age. A routine example of discrimination is not hiring someone based on their skin color because of stereotypes that their race may have. White people have more power in our society, because people of other races are more discriminated against. Discrimination is not giving people the same treatment. Rosa Parks is an extraordinary example of discrimination because of how much discrimination she faced throughout her life due to her skin color.

While many people still think that white people are treated the same or even treated worse than minority groups, they are 100% mistaken. While it may seem that people are only focused on issues with minority groups like the Black Lives Matter movement, people might think that nobody focuses on issues with the white race. However, there really are no issues that the white race is having since they are already the privileged ones, which is the reason why people are focusing on the minority groups. A lot of white people seem to have a problem with the Black Lives Matter movement because they think it’s implying that their lives don’t matter. The BLM movement was made because of all the black lives who have died, especially by police brutality (which doesn’t affect white people). They are just saying that they are sick of being killed just by their skin color. According to the following article, “Based on The Guardian’s data, black males between the ages of 15 and 34 are nine times more likely to be killed by police than any other demographic” (Craven). The BLM movement has never implied that white lives don’t matter, because in our society that’s already something that is clear. In addition to people thinking that there is no white privilege, some even think that minorities are treated special compared to white people. It is true that some scholarships are given to minority groups. The reason behind those scholarships is that minority groups don’t have the same advantages that white students have. Nevertheless, “Caucasian students receive more than three-quarters (76%) of all institutional merit-based scholarship and grant funding, even though they represent less than two-thirds (62%) of the student population” (Kantrowitz), so once again white people still end up coming on top.
